Non-Surgical Pain Relief and Tissue Repair

Tampa Bay Spine & Injury is one of the first clinics in Florida to offer the  latest advance in safe, comfortable and highly effective laser pain therapy using the class IV laser. The Cutting Edge MLS Class IV Laser is one of the most technologically advanced lasers approved by the FDA. The class IV laser is capable of delivering over 100 times more healing energy than the most powerful devices of the previous generation (Class III – ‘Cold Lasers’ – LLLT – Low Level Laser Therapy).  More power in the class IV laser means shorter treatment times, less therapy needed and immediate pain relief.  Contact Tampa Bay Spine & Injury in Brandon or St. Petersburg to schedule a consultation with one of our chiropractors about the class IV laser therapy.

How Does Laser Therapy Treatment Work?

Laser therapy aims to stimulate chemically damaged cells via
application of specific wavelengths of light. When cells are chemically
damaged, they stimulate the pain cycle. Laser excites the dynamic
energy within the cells by transmitting healing stimuli called photons.
The skin absorbs photons via a photo-chemical effect that does not
cause damage to the tissues. The photons promote a cascade of cellular
activity, including; production of enzymes, stimulation of
mitochondria, increased vasodilation and lymphatic drainage, ATP
synthesis and elevate collagen formation substances to prevent the
formation of scar tissues. This is a critical step in reducing long
term disabling chronic pain syndromes. Simply stated, patients get out
of pain and heal faster at the same time.

Correct Dosage of Laser Therapy Treatment and Best Results:

The most important factor for success in the Class IV laser therapy treatment is
the correct dosage of sufficient laser energy to the target tissue. Too
little, or too much laser photonic energy produces suboptimal results.
Therefore there is an ‘Optimal Window’ of therapeutic dosage. The
primary factors in laser therapy treatment that determine dosage are Power and
Time.

65% of laser energy is absorbed through the skin and subcutaneous
tissue layers including blood, melanin and water. In order to
overcome these factors one must start with large quantities of energy
to reach the deeper target cells and myofascial structures with a
required dose.

Laser Therapy Treatment and Depth of Tissue Penetration:

The Class IV Laser therapy treatment can be used for conditions like carpal tunnel, sprains, strains, wrists and elbows, which can be treated with lower doses of energy. If you are going to use the Class IV Laser to treat deep tissue spinal injuries, hips, shoulders and neuropathies, it is necessary for target doses to be higher. It is important to understand that you cannot make up for insufficient power by increasing treatment time. Depth of tissue penetration will not increase with more application time. Results require more than increasing time.

Laser Therapy has been widely utilized in Europe by physical
therapists, nurses and doctors as far back as the 1970’s. After FDA
approval in 2002 (Class III) and 2003 (Class IV), Laser Therapy is
being used extensively in the United States. Now Tampa Bay Spine & Injury brings the latest technology with the class IV laser to our chiropractic clinic in Brandon and St. Petersburg.

Laser Pain Therapy Reduces Inflammation

Laser Therapeutic Effects: During each painless treatment laser
energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to
the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that
reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As
the injured area returns to normal, pain is relieved and function is
restored.

Cellular Effects of Laser Therapy: During Laser Therapy the infrared
laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level and metabolic
activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of
nutrients across the cell membrane. This increasing cellular function
and health.
